Pillar Guide · South Carolina
The Best Hotel Restaurants in South Carolina
Charleston is the South's great hotel-dining city, and these are the six rooms we'd send a friend to first: The Palmetto Cafe's Lowcountry breakfasts at The Charleston Place, the landmark Peninsula Grill at Planters Inn (temporarily closed since August 31, 2026 for a property-wide renovation — reopening expected fall 2026), the Ashley and Cooper tasting menus at Circa 1886 in Wentworth Mansion, "Stylishly Southern" Gabrielle at Hotel Bennett, Southern coastal Iron Rose at Mills House, and wood-fired Italian at Frannie & The Fox in The Emeline. We've written an original, independent guide to each: what the menu looks like, what it costs, and what we'd order. Prices are reported figures, dated honestly — never copied menus.

Search interest
We research every expansion state with Google Trends (US, 12 months) before writing a word. South Carolina posted a state mean of 1.3 in our earlier research — the best remaining unbuilt option, ahead of DC, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts. One honest caveat: the interest is spike-driven, not a flat year-round baseline — real curiosity, but lumpy.
Verified open — with one flag
Five of the six were verified open in October 2026 against official sites, active reservation listings, and recent review activity. Two substitutions: The Charleston Grill closed permanently in August 2025 (replaced by same-hotel The Palmetto Cafe), and Henrietta's at The Dewberry is permanently closed per OpenTable. Peninsula Grill is only temporarily closed for renovation — its guide says so prominently at the top.
Our honesty rules
Every guide is written in our own words from official and verified sources. Prices are labeled with their date and source — Iron Rose's are official and current, Gabrielle's are official but February 2024 era, and where a restaurant publishes no prices (Palmetto Cafe, Peninsula Grill, Circa 1886, Frannie & The Fox), we say so plainly instead of guessing.
